First EIFF Screenwriter-in-Residence announced!

Krysty Wilson-Cairns

Krysty Wilson-Cairns

Living in Edinburgh for many festival seasons means the Beltane team are no longer that starstruck around the odd celebrity. However, we almost lost our cool last week when we met the new Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) Screenwriter-in-Residence, Krysty Wilson-Cairns!

Glasgow-born Krysty now spends much of her time in LA, working with the likes of Sam Mendes and Darren Aronofsky. However, for the next year, you might also find her hanging out in one of Edinburgh’s university libraries, or even at a department coffee morning! And we reckon she’ll fit right in, too (she’s totally not LA-ified).

Krysty is fascinated by all academic research that could be argued to be stranger-than-fiction, from dark matter to the secret lives of Victorian women. This new, first-ever EIFF residency will allow her to meet researchers and get inspired, while hopefully making sure research in her screenplays is represented as accurately as possible.

The Beltane team is working with partner universities to put together a programme of individual researchers and groups who might like to meet with Krysty. If you’d like to be involved, please email info@beltanenetwork.org.
