The University of Edinburgh, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh Napier University and Queen Margaret University have all signed the Manifesto for Public Engagement and pledged to develop their support for researchers to engage with the public.
As a manager at a university you may wonder what public engagement is and why it matters. The National Coordinating Centre for Public Engagement‘s website provides the information and arguments for developing a strategic approach to public engagement as well as the EDGE tool to help university managers assess how to embed public engagement in their own institutions/departments/schools.
We at the Beltane Public Engagement Network can support you in this process by:
- facilitating the development of a public engagement strategy that is right for your institution,
- providing the training and staff development needed to create a culture of engagement and
- acting as brokers to create the partnerships need for effective, quality engagement.
