EIFF | Youth Hub – Filmmaking Challenge

Inspire young filmmakers with your research!

Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) Youth Hub offers a free programme of events for 15 to 25 yr olds who are passionate about cinema and the moving image and/or who might be considering working towards a career in film or television. As part of the Ideas Laboratory, we will work with the EIFF Education and Learning team to deliver an event as part of the EIFF Youth Hub activity.

The Ideas Laboratory Youth Hub Filmmaking Competition will connect with our younger audiences, encouraging them to think and learn a little more about science through creativity and filmmaking. Teams of young filmmakers will be challenged to make a short film in a week around a scientific theme.

We are seeking researchers to talk to the young filmmakers at the launch of the competition 17 June, about their field of work. This is to allow the teams to ask questions and develop their plans before shooting. In addition, EIFF will offer a practical workshop with a filmmaker in attendance advising on how to incorporate the research theme. The researchers and filmmaker will then make up a jury to select the winning film.

Ideally we’d like to recruit three researchers each working in one of the following topic areas: 1) Environment and Climate Change; 2) Pandemics and Infectious Diseases and 3) Neuroscience.  We will also consider researchers working in other fields within Wellcome’s remit.
