This event is an opportunity to develop your thoughts around any ethical dilemmas you may have encountered when undertaking public engagement with research.

The format (and the image to the right!) is borrowed from Durham University’s Centre for Social Justice and Community Action. At this event, the format will be used to:

  • Raise awareness of the ethical challenges involved in undertaking public engagement with research
  • Listen to, question and learn from those who have encountered challenges
  • Develop some recommendations for action

Who’s this for?

The session is open to anyone involved with research at universities in Edinburgh, plus anyone interested in working with researchers at universities in Edinburgh. We need several people to present dilemmas in order for the session to work. However, you are also welcome to come to listen to others – a dilemma is not a pre-requisite!

Will the information be confidential?

The session will take place under Chatham House rules (participants will be free to use the information received, but neither the identity nor the affiliation of the speaker(s), nor that of any other participant, may be revealed). For all dilemmas presented, the names of people and places must be kept anonymous in the session (as far as is practical).
