Dr Felicity Mehendale

Felicity is a Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive & Cleft Surgeon at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children, Edinburgh. She is the Clinical Lead East of Scotland Cleft Lip and Palate Service and an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer, University of Edinburgh

Her work involves both surgery and research. She looks after patients from antenatal diagnosis into adulthood and also investigates and treats babies and children with speech and airway problems as well as other congenital facial anomalies.

Her research includes objective measurement of clinical outcomes, velopharyngeal anatomy and physiology, speech surgery including its effect on the airway, obstructive sleep apnoea/snoring, wound healing, particularly, embryonic wound healing, developmental biology of the face, comparative anatomy of the head and neck, 3D imaging and measurement of the face, facial symmetry and face perception. Having trained and worked in India she is also fascinated by international differences in healthcare and disease.
